Lash Extension FAQ and Care
Please read all the way to the bottom!
What are semi-permanent eyelash extensions?
They are a single, naturally tapered, glossy synthetic lash attached to a single natural lash with a special adhesive.
How Long do they last?
Natural lashes are constantly shedding and new ones are growing in their place. Extensions will fall out along with your natural lash when it's at the end of
its growth cycle. As the new ones come in, they will need to have extensions applied to them. With regular touch-ups your lash extensions will last indefinitely.
Make sure that any products you use on or around your eyes do not contain oils, glycols, PEG or carbonates. They will weaken the adhesive.
Do they hurt?
When properly applied you should not feel them at all. They are lightweight and feel very natural. If you do feel anything, call immediately to have them checked. Also, if you have any swelling or redness of the eyelids call immediately. You may be allergic to the adhesive and may need to have them removed.
The procedure itself is very relaxing, and you may even fall asleep!
Will they damage my natural lashes?
When properly applied, they will not harm your natural lashes. When improperly applied, they may be clumpy and there may be several lashes stuck
together. This will cause pain and irritation because of the different growth rates and stages of each lash, which will cause pulling of attached lashes. This can cause damage to your natural lashes, premature lash loss and follicle damage. Applying lashes that are too long and/or too heavy for your
natural lash to support will also cause premature lash loss and thinning of the natural lashes. Proper isolation of each natural lash, as well as safe length/weight of extensions is key to damage free and comfortable eyelash extensions.
How long does the procedure take?
The initial appointment will depend on how many lashes you have applied, but typically will take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours (3 hours for Volume) and
includes a consultation. Fills typically take 45 minutes, unless you need an extended fill.
Can I curl them?
No, do not use a mechanical curler on them. There is no need to curl them, as the extensions have a beautiful curl already.
Can I wear mascara with them?
There really is no need to wear mascara. The extensions will add length and volume to your lashes. But if you must, you can wear a water-based mascara
on the tips of the extensions. Never use waterproof or extended-wear mascara on eyelash extensions. Mascara is not recommended on Volume extensions.
Can I swim with them?
Yes, you can swim, exercise, sauna and spa. Excessive exposure to heat, steam and water may weaken the bond of the adhesive and cause some of the
extensions to come off prematurely, or in some cases weaken the curl of the extensions. Avoid getting them wet for 24 hours after application.
How often do I need touch-ups?
With proper care and maintenance, touch-ups are needed every 2-4 weeks to replace the lashes that have shed.
What do I do if I want them removed?
Do not pick or pull them off. Do not attempt to remove them yourself. You must have a trained professional remove them with a specially
formulated adhesive remover.
**If you have ever had an allergic reaction to acrylic nails, Cyanoacrylate,
adhesives, synthetics, Hydroquinone super glue or even medical grade liquid sutures you may not be able to have eyelash extensions applied!**
Tips To Get The Most of Your Touchup Appointment
Touch-ups are priced by time...NOT the amount of lashes applied. Following these tips will ensure you get the most amount of lashes applied during our time together.
- Please come with ALL eye-makeup removed. You do not want me spending precious time cleaning your lashes, when I could be applying lashes. If you need to come with makeup still on, please come in 10 mins early and use my cleanser to wash it off. Your lashes must be freshly cleansed before appointment, even if you didn't apply makeup that day.
- Please do not apply anti-aging products or moisturizers for 24-48 hours prior to appointment. Lashes will hold much longer if you refrain from using them.
- Please do not drink coffee or heavily caffeinated drinks before your appointment. The caffeine will make your eyelids "fluttery", making it very difficult to apply lashes.
- Please do not chew gum during your appointment. The chewing motion moves the temples which makes it very difficult to steady my hands.
- Please be on time to your appointment! Your appointment time starts and ends at the time you booked, so if you're late I will have less time to apply lashes, but you will still pay for the full appointment time you booked for.
Tips To Get The Longest Wear From Your Lashes
- Avoid products with Oils, as they will break down the bond of the adhesive which will cause the extension to separate from the natural lash.
- When using eye creams, gently blot off any excess about 15 minutes after application.
- Do not pick, pull or play with your lashes!
- Keep your lash line clean!!! I can't tell you how many times I have had clients come to me and say they didn't wash them because they were afraid to. Just use your fingers and the baby shampoo, and gently rub the lash line.
- If you wear mascara, wash it off every day! I am noticing clients coming in with old mascara that won't come off when I clean the lashes and I have to scrape it off. I feel it's because they haven't been washing it off daily, and are just re-applying another coat. Their extensions are always a mess!
- Do not cleanse your lashes with a washcloth, cotton rounds or cotton swabs. They can get caught and pull out some of the extensions, and the cotton swabs and rounds can leave cotton fibers in your lashes. Again, just use your fingers with the baby shampoo cleanser.
- When brushing through lashes with spoolie, spin through the lashes from the top and then gently brush up at the front, avoiding the base of the extensions. Do not brush at the base, which may get caught and gradually pry them loose. Do not over brush!
- Do not use waterproof or extended wear mascaras and make sure eyeliners do not use gel eyeliners.
- I have found that clients using the baby shampoo mixture to cleanse their lashes are coming back with more extensions still intact. I recommend using it daily.
Shampoo Mix:
1 part J&J Baby Shampoo
3-4 parts water (preferably distilled)
1 teaspoon baking soda
*if you are having a problem with buildup at lash line, add 1 tsp of Tea Tree Oil.
Mix all ingredients in a foam pump dispenser and apply with fingers. Use just your fingers or soft eye shadow brush to gently cleanse the lash line. Let it sit on the lashes, or repeat the process if you have worn heavy makeup.
